Issue with Epson XP-245 Chipless Firmware and Automatic Updates
Problem Description
I've been using XP-245 chipless firmware for years, however I found that my printer will automatically update to version 20.25.EF20J9 which is not supported by chipless firmware 3-4 times a year. I'm sure that it is not conducted by computers as I'm using the printer wirelessly without USB connection. Each time I have to follow a previous guide to downgrade the firmware.
Possible Solutions
Is it possible to block this kind of auto firmware upgrade or have a chipless firmware with EF20J9?
You can disable automatic updates from the printer's menu on the LCD, but my printer does not have an LCD.
Suggestions and Steps to Follow
One suggestion is to check if the Epson software updater is installed and if auto update is disabled in the driver settings. This printer may not support auto update by itself, but the corresponding Epson software can update the printer via a Wi-Fi connection.
I have uninstalled all Epson utilities from my PC when it upgraded the second time. Did you also disable firmware updates in the driver settings? You can also try installing the software updater, disable automatic updates, and then uninstall it again as a possible solution.
